Go Green SG 2024: A Month of Eco-Friendly Action and Fun
Singapore's nationwide sustainability movement, Go Green SG 2024, has recently wrapped up on July 14th after a month-long celebration of environmental awareness and action. This year's event, running from June 12th to July 14th, saw an impressive expansion in both scale and impact, building on the success of its inaugural 2023 edition.
Throughout the span of the month-long event, many sustainability based activities were held to educate the public on sustainability. With the activities ranging from sustainability tours, educational workshops and tree planting opportunities.
Though the movement has ended, it doesn’t mean that we should stop playing our part in living sustainable lifestyles to help cultivate a greener Singapore. Here are some actions we can take in our daily lives to work towards leading a more environmentally conscious life.
- Reduce single-use plastics by using reusable water bottles, shopping bags, and food containers
Reducing usage of single-use plastics is one of the easiest and most effective ways to help with climate change. Simply opt to use reusable water bottles, tote bags and lunch boxes! And why not go the extra step, and invest into high quality, made from sustainable materials, water bottles and lunch boxes for your everyday use. This not only saves you money in the long run, but also helps prevent the hundreds of single use plastic products from ending in landfills or oceans.

Adopt eco-friendly transportation habits
Another easy way to lead an environmentally conscious life is to opt to use public transport for your commuting journey. Singapore is a relatively small country, with public transport readily accessible for usage, making it both a sustainable and convenient way to travel. We can also walk or bike for short distance journeys. This is not only great for the environment, but also helps to get in your daily dose of exercise, therefore improving your health.

Choose sustainable clothing options, including secondhand items or eco-friendly brands
With thrifting on the rise, we can choose to give secondhand clothes a second chance at life and embrace our inner fashionista by choosing to shop at second hand thrift shops. We can also opt to purchasing from brands that produce their clothes through sustainable means, or hosting clothing swaps with friends, to keep our wardrobes always fresh and spoiled with options.Incorporating these three changes into your daily life can have a profound impact on your environmental footprint. Remember, every small action counts, and collectively, we can create significant positive change for our planet. Start with one habit today, and gradually incorporate more as you go. Your future self – and the Earth – will thank you!
